Developing at Warp Speed

The Twins are 24 Weeks Old

It's starting to happen. The boys are developing at warp speed. Maybe it's their age. Maybe it's because now that I'm working, the pace of life has picked up. I can't believe that I've been back to work for over 2 months now.

Hubby is convinced that G-Dawg is babbling now, saying syllables instead of just making slurred noises. I continue to say "mama" to him all the time, hoping for at least a "ma". He just looks at me and smiles. His lips gets so wide sometimes that you can see see the insides of his mouth and his tongue. He gets excited when I smack my lips.

Both babes are starting to grasp at things that are put in their lap. They clutch their blankets and put them so close to their face that sometimes they go cross-eyed. You can put a toy in their lap and they'll hold onto into and try to stuff it in their mouths. Good thing the toys all way too big to fit. Their favorite toy is the o'Ball rattle:

This was my first toy purchase. I picked it up when the boys were in the NICU and we were buying car seats. I figured it was overpriced - about $10 - but it was totally worth it! Their tiny little fingers get into the cracks and hold onto it.

Last week, J-Man held the rattle in his hand and stretched his arm out. The rattle landed right in front of G-Dawg's face, who smiled at it. Then J-Man put the rattle back in his lap and stretched out again so the rattle was in front of G-Dawg's face again. This went on a few times before the rattle dropped. They were entertaining each other....so cute!

The boys aren't reaching out to grab things (that aren't in their lap) just yet, but it will happen any day now. J-Man tried out the new exersaucer and I swear that he was leaning over to get closer to the toys. He looks like such a big boy here. You'd never know that his adjusted age is barely 4 months!

J-Man and G-Dawg are totally aware of their surroundings, are interactive, and seem to have pretty good eyesight. If you smile at them, they'll smile back, even if they're across the room (unless they're grumpy). If you give them raspberries, they'll laugh. If you sing to them, they'll usually listen and calm down but sometimes cry (I don't have the best voice). Sometimes when I hug J-Man, I swear that he's hugging me back. They look in the mirror and turn to your voice and when they hear sounds. They kick their legs when they get excited and G-Dawg pays close attention when you talk to him. He'll be saying his first word first.

Soon they'll be eating from spoons like champs. The pedi told us to feed them solids for 3 meals a day. For now, I'm doing two since they're still so young - one fruit or veggie and one meal with cereal.

My little babies won't be little babies anymore. It's hard being at work and missing their day-to-day development, so I'm trying to enjoy every little bit of their infancy.

Yay for the exersaucer! I love that our boys are the same age and are doing the same things at the same time, relatively speaking. Oh, and the o-ball rattle is one of our favorites, too. Hayes definitely played with it enough to get our money's worth. And now Fisher will make it even more worth it. Your boys may also like Sophie La Giraffe---a rubber squeaky toy that they can easily hold and gnaw on. It's kinda retro and overpriced, too ($16?), but another I found to be well worth the money spent. Let me know if you have found any other must-haves!
